1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazole bromide (EMIMBr) is an ionic liquid consisting of a 1-position ethyl (C2H5-) and 3-position methyl (CH3-) substituent on the imidazole ring, and a bromide ion (Br-). Its chemical formula is C6H11BrN2 and its molecular weight is 191.07. It has a conductivity of 1.92 mS/cm. this value indicates that EMIMBr has some electrical conductivity and is suitable for applications requiring ion transport. It has a melting point: 79°C ± 2. Near this temperature, EMIMBr changes from a solid to a liquid.
EMIMBr is a white or cream coloured crystalline powder with good water solubility and solubility in organic solvents. It has a pH of 7 and is neutral in aqueous solutions. These properties give EMIMBr a wide range of applications in chemical synthesis, electrochemistry, green solvents and as a catalyst carrier.
