1-Methylimidazole Hydrogen Sulfate is a common imidazole ionic liquid, belonging to the monosubstituted imidazole group of ionic liquids, consisting of a 1-methylimidazole cation and a hydrogen sulfate anion. It has the distinctive feature of being able to remain stable at temperatures in excess of 200°C due to its extremely low vapour pressure, meaning that it is virtually non-volatile at room or high temperatures and can therefore be used in open systems without fear of loss. It also shows good chemical stability and is able to withstand a wide range of acidic, alkaline and redox reaction conditions.
This ionic liquid has excellent compatibility with water and certain organic solvents. Its high polarity enables it to dissolve compounds that are difficult to handle with conventional solvents, such as inorganic salts, polar organics, etc. 1-Methylimidazole hydrogensulfate not only reduces harmful emissions, but also has good biodegradability and recyclability compared to conventional organic solvents. In many processes, this ionic liquid can be recycled through simple separation techniques, reducing raw material consumption and waste generation.
